AIIMS Patna Embezzlement Case Exposes Major Financial Irregularities

A major financial irregularity has come to light at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences AIIMS Patna, where an alleged embezzlement of approximately fifty lakh rupees has been detected. The case has raised serious concerns regarding internal financial controls at one of India’s premier medical institutions.

Chief Cashier Suspended Following Internal Audit Findings

The AIIMS Patna administration has suspended Chief Cashier Anurag Aman with immediate effect after serious allegations of financial misconduct surfaced. Alongside the suspension, a departmental inquiry has been formally initiated. During the investigation period, the concerned employee has been relieved of all financial responsibilities to ensure an impartial probe.

Irregularities Detected During Routine Internal Audit

The alleged embezzlement came to light during a routine internal audit conducted by Accounts Officer Piyush Anand. The audit revealed major discrepancies in the reconciliation of cash books, payment registers, receipts, and linked bank accounts. These inconsistencies triggered a deeper financial review by the audit team.

Unauthorised Transactions and Missing Documentation Raise Red Flags

According to preliminary findings, multiple transactions were carried out between different cash accounts without proper documentation or approval from competent authorities. The audit team identified an unaccounted amount of nearly five million rupees, leading to strong suspicion of financial misappropriation.

AIIMS Patna Issues Official Statement on the Incident

Following the discovery, AIIMS Patna issued an official press release describing the allegations as extremely serious. The administration stated that prima facie evidence of financial irregularities had been found and reaffirmed that transparency and financial discipline would not be compromised under any circumstances.

Departmental Inquiry Launched With Assurance of Fair Investigation

Administrative officials have confirmed that the departmental inquiry will be conducted strictly in accordance with established rules and regulations. The investigation will remain unbiased, and any conclusions will be based solely on evidence gathered during the inquiry process.

Embezzled Amount Reportedly Returned to the Institute

AIIMS sources have stated that the accused employee admitted to the embezzlement during questioning and disclosed that the funds had been invested in the stock market. The administration has confirmed that the embezzled amount has since been returned. However, further investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the misconduct.

Possibility of Legal Action and Dismissal From Service

Officials have clarified that if the allegations are proven, strict disciplinary action will follow. This may include dismissal from service and initiation of legal proceedings. The case may also be referred to the police or other investigative agencies if required under law.

Patient Care and Hospital Services to Remain Unaffected

The AIIMS administration has assured the public that the incident will not affect patient care or daily hospital operations. Measures are being taken to strengthen internal audit mechanisms and tighten financial procedures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Investigation Continues as Financial Oversight Comes Under Scrutiny

The investigation is currently underway, and further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry report. This incident has once again highlighted the importance of robust financial oversight and accountability mechanisms in public healthcare institutions.
