Women attendants also accused doctors of snatching and breaking mobile phones while security guards allegedly remained silent spectators.

Alleged Assault by Junior Doctors Creates Chaos at BRD Medical College Hospital

A major controversy erupted on Wednesday afternoon at the Nehru Hospital of BRD Medical College after junior doctors allegedly locked three attendants inside a room and assaulted them multiple times inside Ward Number 9. The incident reportedly triggered panic inside the ward, with several attendants abandoning patients and rushing into the corridor out of fear.

Women Allege Misbehavior and Phone Snatching

According to the attendants, women who tried to record the incident on their mobile phones were allegedly threatened and mistreated by the junior doctors. One woman claimed her phone was snatched and damaged during the altercation. Witnesses also alleged that security guards remained silent spectators throughout the incident and failed to intervene.

Police Intervention After Violence

Police personnel from the Medical College outpost later arrived at the hospital, rescued the attendants, and took them to the police outpost for questioning. Interestingly, this was reportedly the second such incident within 15 hours. On Tuesday night around 11 PM, another alleged assault involving a patient attendant had reportedly taken place in Ward Number 3.

Dispute Began Over Patient Admission

The incident reportedly started after 72 year old Virendra Tiwari, a heart patient from Kushinagar, was referred from Ward Number 9 to the Cardiology Department at the Super Specialty Block. After examination, cardiologists allegedly advised that the patient should remain admitted for two more days.

However, when attendants brought the patient back to Ward Number 9, a junior doctor allegedly insisted that the patient be discharged and taken home. The attendants objected and cited the cardiologist’s recommendation, following which an argument allegedly escalated into verbal abuse.

Attendants Claim They Were Locked and Beaten

The attendants alleged that nearly 15 to 20 junior doctors gathered at the ward and forcibly confined three attendants in separate rooms before assaulting them repeatedly. Reena Singh, a resident of Chhapra in Bihar who was accompanying her brother for treatment, alleged that her mobile phone was forcibly taken and broken during the violence.

The attendants further claimed that they were assaulted three different times after being locked inside separate rooms.

Junior Doctors Accuse Attendants of Violence

Junior doctors have also accused the attendants of initiating the confrontation. According to them, the attendants were under stress, refused to listen, and began abusing and assaulting the doctors first, which led to the altercation.

Hospital Administration Responds

Dr. B.N. Shukla, Chief Medical Superintendent of Nehru Hospital, stated that the matter has come to the administration’s notice. He said the attendants were taken away by police and no formal written complaint had been received so far. He added that a detailed inquiry would be conducted once a complaint is submitted, and strict action would be taken against anyone found guilty.
