A doctor in Bhilwara allegedly attempted suicide by consuming phenyl after accusing a private hospital operator of financial exploitation, unpaid salary, mental harassment, and police inaction. The incident has sparked concern over workplace conditions and disputes in the medical profession.
A doctor working at a private hospital in the Subhash Nagar police station area of Bhilwara allegedly attempted suicide by consuming phenyl. He was admitted in critical condition to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Before attempting suicide, Dr. Ravi Kumar Verma reportedly recorded a video and sent it to his advocate friend. In the video, he accused private hospital operator Dr. Hemant Khajja and others of cheating him of nearly Rs 15 lakh, mentally harassing him, and financially exploiting him.
The incident is related to a private hospital located in RC Vyas Colony near the private bus stand under the Subhash Nagar police station area. Dr. Ravi Kumar Verma, who was working there as the Managing Director, allegedly consumed phenyl in an attempt to end his life.
After his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for treatment. According to reports, his condition is now said to be stable and out of danger.
Allegations Against Hospital Operator
Before the suicide attempt, Dr. Verma sent a video message to his advocate friend. In the video, he accused Udaipur based hospital operator Dr. Hemant Khajja and other individuals associated with the hospital of cheating him of around Rs 15 lakh.
He claimed that continuous mental harassment and financial exploitation pushed him into severe distress.
Claim of Eight Months Unpaid Salary
In the video, Dr. Verma stated that he had not received his salary for the last eight months. He alleged that his vehicle had been mortgaged and that his bank EMIs were continuously bouncing.
He further claimed that all his savings had been exhausted.
No Money Left for Food and Survival
According to Dr. Verma, his financial condition had become so bad that he did not even have enough money for food and accommodation.
He also alleged that he was stopped on the road, abused with caste based slurs, and threatened. Additionally, pressure was allegedly being exerted on him to vacate his room located within the hospital premises.
Allegations of Police Inaction
Dr. Ravi Kumar Verma claimed that he had been visiting the Subhash Nagar police station continuously for the last four days, but neither was an FIR registered nor was any concrete action taken on his complaint.
He further alleged that instead of taking action, the police were allegedly trying to broker a compromise through CA Mahesh Kabra. According to him, timely action could have prevented him from taking such an extreme step.
Police Statement
Subhash Nagar SHO Kailash Vishnoi stated that he had no information regarding any attempt to force a compromise or apply pressure. He said that the doctor may have been called to the police station during the process.
According to the police, the matter involving Dr. Hemant Khajja was related to a financial dispute between both parties.
