Heartbreaking Tragedy: Three Young MBBS Students Lose Their Lives in Kozhikode Scooter Accident

It was meant to be just another late-night ride home. Three bright young students, full of dreams of healing others, tragically lost their lives in a devastating road accident early this morning in Kozhikode, Kerala.  

The Fatal Incident  

Between 1:40 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on March 19, an electric scooter carrying three first-year MBBS students from Malabar Medical College crashed into an electric pole at Kuruvangad, near Koyilandy.  

The impact was severe, causing the vehicle to overturn and fall into a roadside drain. All three students either died on the spot or succumbed to their injuries shortly after being rushed to a nearby hospital.  

The Victims  

The victims have been identified as:  

•Nandakishore (Nanda Kishore), 22, from Karunagappally, Kollam district  

•Abhiyan Rahman (Abiyan), 19, from Kayamkulam  

•Abhinav Suresh, 19–20, from Alanellur, Palakkad district  

A Painful Reminder  

Reading about this incident is deeply heartbreaking. Kerala has made remarkable progress in healthcare and education, yet road safety continues to be a serious concern.  

Electric scooters are convenient and eco-friendly. However, when overloaded or driven at high speeds on poorly lit roads with open drains and unmarked obstacles,they can become extremely dangerous.  

This accident serves as a painful reminder that:  

•Helmets save lives wearing them is non-negotiable.  

•Overloading a two-wheeler is risky and should never be attempted.  

•Late night travel requires extra caution, especially on unfamiliar or poorly maintained roads.  

•Young lives are irreplaceable, especially those dedicated to saving others.
