India’s healthcare sector achieved global recognition in the World’s Best Hospitals 2026 rankings. Medanta Gurugram secured the top position in India followed by AIIMS Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, and CMC Vellore. The rankings highlight India’s improving healthcare infrastructure, clinical expertise, and growing reputation in providing high quality patient care.
India’s healthcare system has achieved an important milestone with several leading hospitals gaining recognition in the World’s Best Hospitals 2026 rankings. The list evaluated more than 2,500 hospitals across 32 countries using factors such as peer recommendations from doctors, hospital quality indicators, patient experience, and patient reported outcome measures that assess real improvements in health and quality of life.

The rankings demonstrate the growing strength of India’s healthcare ecosystem. Fifty hospitals from India were included in the national ranking, reflecting improvements in medical infrastructure, specialized care, and patient outcomes. While global top positions were dominated by hospitals from countries like the United States and Sweden, Indian institutions continue to gain international recognition for their clinical excellence and patient care.
Medanta – The Medicity in Gurugram secured the top position among Indian hospitals with a score of 90.90 percent. The hospital is known for advanced treatment facilities in cardiology, oncology, neurology, and organ transplantation. Its focus on cutting edge technology, specialized expertise, and high quality clinical outcomes has helped it maintain a strong reputation both nationally and internationally.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi ranked second with a score of 90.29 percent. As India’s premier government medical institution, AIIMS Delhi is widely respected for its high patient load, advanced research, and affordable tertiary care. The institute continues to symbolize excellence in public healthcare and remains a backbone of India’s medical education and research ecosystem.
The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh secured the third position with a score of 85.96 percent. PGIMER has established itself as a leader in specialized medical fields including neurosciences, cardiology, and gastroenterology. The institute successfully combines medical education, research, and patient care to deliver world class treatment services.
Christian Medical College Vellore ranked fourth in the Indian list with a score of 81.39 percent. Known for its strong ethical foundation and patient centered approach, CMC Vellore has earned trust across the country. The hospital is particularly recognized for its rural outreach programs, oncology services, and reconstructive surgery expertise.
Several other respected institutions also featured in the top ten hospitals in India. These include Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute in Mumbai, Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre in Mumbai, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, and P D Hinduja National Hospital in Mumbai. Together these institutions highlight the strong presence of both private and public healthcare providers in India.
The inclusion of fifty hospitals from India highlights the rapid progress of the country’s healthcare sector. Private hospitals are often leading in technological adoption and international patient services, while government institutions continue to provide large scale affordable care and advanced research.
