A doctor attacked while helping a patient in Ahmedabad, this disturbing event raises serious concerns about safety and respect for healthcare workers.
A recent incident in Ahmedabad has once again highlighted a serious and growing concern violence against doctors. On the night of March 20 or 21, 2026 A 64 year old doctor was brutally attacked in the Samarth Nagar area of Sardarnagar. Late at night around 11:30 pm, he received a call from a local resident who claimed to be injured and bleeding. Responding to the emergency, the doctor went to the patient’s home to provide treatment. While treating the patient’s head injury caused earlier during an argument, the doctor tried to calm the situation. He advised the individuals involved to resolve their dispute peacefully. Instead of listening, the aggressor turned violent and attacked the doctor with a steel walking stick. The blow struck left side of his head causing severe bleeding. The doctor later required 16 stitches.
A complaint was filed at the Airport police station and the incident has been widely reported in the media.
Not an Isolated Incident
Unfortunately, this is not a one time incident. Across India doctors frequently face verbal abuse, threats and even physical attacks. Many doctors work in stressful environments with limited resources. They often deal with emotional patients and families, especially during emergencies. Despite their dedication, they are sometimes blamed when outcomes do not meet expectations.Home visits especially late at night are even more risky. Situations can quickly turn unsafe as seen in this case.
The doctor’s only mistake was trying to help and calm people down something that is part of both professional duty and basic humanity.
What Needs to Change?
It is time to take this issue seriously and act:
1.Strict implementation of laws
Violence against doctors must be treated with zero tolerance.
2.Better security measures
Hospitals and clinics should have proper protection systems. For home visits, safety support or escorts should be considered.
3.Public awareness
People need to understand that doctors are human and are doing their best under difficult conditions.
4.Support for affected doctors
Victims should receive proper medical, emotional and legal support.
A Message of Respect
To the doctor who suffered this attack, thank you for your courage and dedication. We wish you a speedy recovery.
Your story should not just be another news headline. It should be a turning point.
Final Thoughts
Violence against doctors should never be considered “part of the job.” It is unacceptable.Doctors are often the first people we turn to in times of crisis. They deserve respect, safety and support so they can continue saving lives without fear.
Let’s stand together to protect those who protect us.
