A tragic incident has been reported from Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, where an MBBS student allegedly died by suicide inside the boys’ hostel of a Government Medical College. The incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding the mental health and well-being of medical students in India.

Student Did Not Leave Room for an Entire Day
According to initial information, the student had dinner on Tuesday night and went to his hostel room as usual. On Wednesday, he did not come out of his room throughout the day, which raised suspicion among his fellow hostel residents.
Warden Discovered the Body Through Ventilator
When repeated knocks on the door went unanswered, fellow students informed the hostel warden. The warden reportedly looked through the ventilator of the room and saw the student hanging from the ceiling fan. The police were immediately informed about the incident.
Identity of the Deceased Student
The deceased student has been identified as Sandeep Gurjar (22), a resident of Kotputli, who was studying in MBBS Third Year. He had reportedly returned to the hostel just two days earlier after visiting his home.
Police Confirmation of the Incident
Hanumangarh Junction Station House Officer Ramchandra Kaswan confirmed that information regarding the suicide of an MBBS third-year student was received on Wednesday evening from the Government Medical College boys’ hostel.
Police and FSL Team Conduct On-Site Investigation
Upon reaching the spot, the police found the student’s body hanging inside the hostel room. The body was shifted to the district hospital mortuary. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was called to the scene to collect evidence. Statements of students and hostel staff were recorded as part of the investigation.
Timeline of Events Before the Incident
As per available details, Sandeep went to his room after dinner on January 6. On January 7, he remained inside his room for the entire day. Late at night, when there was no response from his room, fellow students alerted the hostel authorities, leading to the discovery of the body.
Postmortem Conducted and Body Handed Over to Family
The medical college administration informed the student’s family about the incident. On Thursday morning, a postmortem examination was conducted at the district hospital, after which the body was handed over to the family members.
College Administration and Police Await Cause of Suicide
College Principal Kirti Shekhawat stated that information is being gathered from faculty members and students of the deceased’s class. As of now, no clear reason behind the suicide has emerged. The police are conducting a detailed investigation, and the exact cause will be known only after completion of the inquiry.
