Five MBBS Senior Students Suspended for 3 Months in Medical College Ragging Case in Bharatpur
A medical college in Bharatpur has taken disciplinary action against five senior MBBS students in connection with a ragging incident that reportedly arose from a dispute over a badminton tournament schedule. The incident occurred at SJP Medical College and resulted in suspension and financial penalties for the accused students.
Dispute Over Tournament Date Escalated Into Ragging Allegations
According to reports, the incident took place on February 14 when a disagreement between senior and junior batches over the date of a badminton tournament escalated into a confrontation. The Class Representative (CR) of the 2024 junior batch, Raviraj Shirowal, alleged that during a meeting in Lecture Theatre 3, several senior students entered the venue and verbally abused and mentally harassed junior students.
The complaint further stated that the CR was later taken outside the lecture theatre and physically assaulted. The students named in the complaint included Tarun Agarwal, Rahul Tyagi, Giriraj Yadav, Yuvraj, and a female student identified as Vasu. The complainant lodged an online complaint on the National Medical Commission anti ragging portal and also submitted a complaint at Sewar police station.
Anti Ragging Committee Orders Suspension and Fine
Following the complaint, the college administration conducted counselling sessions with both parties and referred the matter to the Anti Ragging Committee. After an internal inquiry, the committee decided to suspend the five senior students of the 2021 MBBS batch from all academic and extracurricular activities for a period of three months.
The suspension includes restriction from attending classes, sports activities, and cultural events. However, the students have been allowed to appear in university examinations. Each student has also been fined Rs 25,000 and has been directed to deposit the amount within seven days in the college accounts section. Failure to do so may result in further disciplinary action. The college administration has also informed the National Medical Commission about the action taken.
Police Complaint Withdrawn
Station House Officer Satish Bhardwaj from Sewar police station stated that although an initial complaint was submitted, the complainant later withdrew the written complaint. Despite this withdrawal, the college proceeded with internal disciplinary measures based on the findings of the Anti Ragging Committee.
Not the First Ragging Case in the Institution
This is not the first time the medical college has faced ragging allegations. Similar complaints were reported in 2019, July 2023, and March 2024. In those cases as well, the Anti Ragging Committee had imposed penalties including suspension and fines after investigation.
The latest action reflects continued administrative efforts to address ragging incidents within the institution and maintain disciplinary standards on campus.
