Junior Resident Doctors Accused of Assault and Illegal Confinement
A major controversy erupted at the Government Medical College in Datia, Madhya Pradesh, after junior resident doctors were accused of assaulting a patient attendant and allegedly locking him inside a duty room, following which the attendant reportedly attempted suicide.
Argument Between Attendant and Doctors Escalated Inside Orthopaedics Ward
The incident took place on Tuesday night in the Orthopaedics ward of the medical college hospital. According to reports, Pradeep Pal, a resident of Bargay village, had come to the hospital for the treatment of his uncle. Eyewitnesses and family members alleged that an argument broke out between Pradeep and junior doctors over an issue inside the ward. They further claimed that several junior resident doctors physically assaulted him and confined him inside a duty room.
Attendant Allegedly Attempted Suicide Inside Locked Room
Family members alleged that Pradeep remained locked inside the room for nearly an hour. During that time, he reportedly tore a curtain inside the room and attempted to hang himself. The incident triggered panic among relatives, who started protesting inside the hospital premises. Soon, other patients and attendants also gathered, leading to chaos and tension throughout the medical college.
Police Broke Open the Room to Rescue the Youth
After receiving information about the incident, hospital police reached the spot and attempted to get the room opened. However, when there was no response from inside, police personnel broke the lock and rescued the attendant.
Hospital Services Affected Amid Late Night Chaos
The incident reportedly disrupted hospital services late into the night, with several patients facing difficulties in receiving treatment. Videos circulating from the hospital showed distressed patients and attendants asking for help amid the commotion.
Medical College Administration Claimed Attendant Was Aggressive
Medical College media in charge Dr. Mukesh Sharma stated that a dispute had occurred between the patient attendant and junior doctors. According to him, the attendant allegedly approached the doctors with a stool in a threatening manner, after which the junior doctors submitted a complaint to the police. He added that the matter was later resolved after both parties reached a compromise in the presence of the hospital superintendent.
Police Said Matter Ended in Compromise
Datia ASP Sunil Kumar Shivhare also stated that the dispute occurred due to a misunderstanding between the doctors and the attendant, and both sides later settled the matter at the police station.
